The Joe Bud’s that you enjoy today is the result of a sauce that was originally created around 1950 by Joe Bud’s uncle and mentor, Jim Bernini, on the Milling Family farm in Greenwood, South Carolina. Uncle Jim catered huge barbecues and Joe “Bud” Johnson was the official sauce stirrer at age 10, mixing large pots of sauce. Uncle Jim’s recipe was in his head and would always say, “you will know when you got it right.”

Over the years, Joe Bud has made a few changes to Uncle Jim’s sauce, but the basic recipe has remained the same to be enjoyed by thousands world wide. The original was made in a milder version and a hotter sauce has been added to the line. Joe Bud has often been asked for the recipe and he says he would gladly give it, except that he would have to shoot the recipient. Therefore, to avoid the untimely loss of good friends, a decision was made to commercially market the sauce that was made and given to friends and family for years.

The real secret to the unique taste sensation that keeps you coming back for more is the careful combination of the finest ingredients, blending of spices and the cooking process itself. Although the sauce was originally developed for basting smoked pork ribs, chicken and other meat products, many customers call and tell us how great it is on just about everything from grilled shrimp, vegetable dips, baked beans and more! Hence, the tag line Joe Bud’s “Everything” sauce.

We encourage you to experiment and enjoy it on everything you choose. Whether it’s grillin’, dippin’, marinatin’, or smokin’, reach for Joe Bud’s! Although Joe Bud’s was bred in the Carolinas, the sauce has been enjoyed by customers from all cultures, having achieved international acclaim in both the United States and abroad.

Joe Bud’s has a very extended shelf life and although it is not necessary to refrigerate after opening, it is recommended for best flavor retention. Joe Bud’s is best served slightly warmed.
